We are seeking a HVAC Engineer to support the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the industrial-level boiler and chiller plants, as well as related building facility systems, at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital campus in Hines, IL.

This role is on - site at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, IL and work shall include various rotating shifts on days, evenings, and nights as well as weekdays and weekends (to include all holidays).

So, what will the HVAC Engineer at Terrestris do?

As the HVAC Engineer , you will be responsible for maintaining, operating, and monitoring high-pressure boilers, chillers, and associated equipment to ensure the hospital's utilities and environmental systems function reliably and safely around the clock.

What does a typical day look like for the HVAC  Engineer?

You will:

• Operate, monitor, and maintain four (4) Cleaver Brooks 35,000 lb./hr. water tube boilers with a normal header pressure of 125 psi.
• Operate and maintain the main hospital chiller plant, including three (3) 1,200-ton Carrier chillers and associated pumps, compressors, cooling towers, and control systems.
• Perform routine and emergency operations of steam, chilled water, condensate, and related distribution systems.
• Monitor all campus buildings, 24-hours per day to ensure uninterrupted operation and functionality.
• Conduct inspections, log readings, and adjust system parameters to ensure optimal performance and compliance with VA and regulatory standards.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues within the boiler and chiller plants.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, chillers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and other auxiliary systems.
• Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, and shift reports.
• Respond to building system alarms and emergencies to maintain facility safety and continuous operations.
• Support energy conservation and environmental compliance initiatives.
• Collaborate with facility engineers, maintenance personnel, and management to coordinate system shutdowns, repairs, and testing.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the engineering professional we're looking for if you have:

• Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently without sponsorship.
• A High School diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of (5) years of experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boiler and industrial/commercial Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) operation experience of similar or greater size and complexity.
• Completion of an accredited stationary engineering or boiler operator training program.
• A valid City of Chicago Stationary Engineer's License.
• Thorough understanding of high-pressure steam, chilled water, and HVAC systems.
• Familiarity with automated building control systems (BAS).
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and control diagrams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

  We are extra  impressed by folks with:  

• EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
• OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety certification.
